Title: OFF TOPIC: Buffy fanclub
Description: Into every generation a slayer is born
itmustbebunnies - July 20, 2007 12:55 PM (GMT)
Since Buffy is the one show I love even more than Grey's and I didn't want to spam the random thread, I thought I'd open up a Buffy fanclub :backflip: .
Anya: Slap my hand now :waves: ! (chuckles and holds up her hand)
Giles: Beg your pardon  ?
Anya: In celebration  .
Giles: Oh... (slaps her hand) Yes.
Anya: Ow :( !
:claps: :claps: :claps:

Ya think Buffy is as dark and twisty? She was in an intsitution for a little while... being a slayer must be tough. Me and my family used to watch buffy every Tuesday, we would put a cover on the floor, get some snacks, and watch. and record. Then when it ended, we'd watch Angel for our buffy fix. we quote buffy all the time. like if I want to say "Bi***" ill just say bitca or stick up or thumb with the pinky hanging out like spike: "out for a walk.....b****)
Life hasn't been the same since it ended. |
Yes, I absolutely think Buffy is as dark and twisty as Meredith. And the characters have a lot in common.
- Their parents divorced after one of their parents had an affair (Buffy says she thinks her dad cheated on her mother)
- they grew up without their father (Buffy not as much as Meredith since her parents only divorced when she was 16, but still) and now have a crappy relationship with him
- they have one/two (half-)sisters who show up out of nowhere :ninja:
- they both kinda killed themselves. Meredith stopped swimming and Buffy jumped off the tower when she could've just as easily let her friggin annoying sister jump. Yeah, partly Buffy jumped because she is a hero and sacrifices her own life for her sisters but partly she also wanted to die. Because when Spike talked about how all the slayers have a secret death wish, he was right
- they both came back to life after they were already dead
- both of them don't like favors. They want to take care of things themselves and they don't accept help from anyone easily, they want to be independent
- they're intelligent :dork:
- they're entertaining when they're drunk
- they don't seem capable of having a long-term relationship
- they choose the guys who they know deep down will hurt them over the good guy
- ...
That's it for now cuz I have to go study a little, but I'm sure I can come up with some more lol.

When I was studying for finals right before I graduated high school I made a collage from Buffy pictures for fun in between all the studying. I took it with me when I moved and now it's still on my wall...
I included the door in the picture so you can see how big it is :P
McBored - July 22, 2007 04:35 PM (GMT)
OOOOhhhhhhh, that is sooo coool. Thats awesome. I'd love to make one, but I don't have a printer and theres lack of buffy mgazines, they all got lost in the move.....But that is prettys awesome. I found the ad out of luck--an old magazine that was stuck in between old school awards..... :sweatdrop:

The new buffy comic is coming..
http://www.darkhorse.com/profile/profile.php?sku=14-661 out the first, i think, and its about one of her decoys... ehich means its either going to be in Italy or in "underground..literally". I heard that Andrew and Giles were going to make appearances.

I've never read a single Buffy comic because I am not into comics at all. Are they any good? I read that BBC might do the Ripper-series next year after all, that would be great. But then again, rumors about Ripper, a Faith series, a Spike movie or series, etc. have been going around for years and nothing ever happened. Oh well.
Some questions for everyone to keep this thread from dying:
1. What's your favorite episode of all times?
2. Which are your favorite episodes from each season?
3. Favorite character?
4. Least favorite character?
I'll start.
1. Once more, with feeling. I love musicals, I loved every single song and think Joss did an amazing job writing them and all the actors did pretty well, considering most of them don't usually sing, I loved how the storylines progressed in this episode - Spuffy kiss, Tara finding out about Willow's spell, Giles deciding to leave Sunnydale, Buffy telling her friends she was in heaven and feels like she's in hell now, Xander and Anya both expressing fear of getting married, Dawn's stealing becoming more of an issue...
2. Season 1: Angel
Season 2: Halloween, Innocence, Becoming part 2
Season 3: The Prom, Graduation Day part 1
Season 4: Something blue  , Hush, Restless
Season 5: Fool for love, The Body :sob:
Season 6: OMWF  , Tabularasa :tv: , the "scary veiny Willow" trilogy
Season 7: Selfless, Storyteller , Lies my parents told me
3. Anya and Spike. I love love love their sarcasm. And I liked how they were always kinda torn between being good and being evil and in the end both chose the right side. I cry every time I see them die. Although, at least Spike got resurrected and went over to Angel so him dying wasn't that sad. He made Angel a better show IMO. Too bad it ended after him being there for only one season :sob: .
4. Dawn "get-out-get-out-get-out" Summers. She annoyed the heck outta me. I always thought Buffy should've let her jump in The Gift. Would've spared the world from a lot of whining and annoying. A close second: "I'm-a-spoilt-brat"-Kennedy as Willow's girlfriend :puke: .
McBored - August 11, 2007 03:17 AM (GMT)
The Buffy comics are very different, but I read them because I get interested. I know theyre starting a faith arc after the new comic, I think they're worth checking out, just to see if you can stand the difference. If not, then just look it up on wikipedia, they usually have accurate summaries on whats going on even if you dont wanna buy it.

1. I have to say "The Gift" because well, I love that episode. (Its soo hard to pick, ya know??) It all came together so great, and its such a tearjerker...Although, OMWF was a MASTERPIECE in my opinion. The gift always does it for me. Action romance, everything I love about Buffy in ONE episode.
2.
season 1: Angel :halo: , Nightmares
season 2: Becomingpt 1-pt2, I only have eyes for you... :sob:
season 3: earshot, Graduation day pt.1p1.2,
season 4:restless,something blue, primeval
season 5: the gift, family, triangle, checkpoint, the body, the weight of the world............ Ok, lets just say "season five"
season 6: Barganing, both parts, OMWF, ":evil:willow arc", normal again
season 7: storyteller, touched, Chosen, him  showtime
3.
Damn that's hard. I don't think I can pick.....I really loved tara, she was kuel...but I guess I have to say Buffy. I love how they showed her strugling to stay human when she was more than a regular human. Her humourous moments were really humourous, and when Buffy hurts it hurts too....I guess thts when you know its good television.
4.
OOhhh I have to agree. Dawn is a little Bitca. Shes sooo whiny, and just...GRRRGH. I just wanna...:makes violent hand gesture:....ya know?? And I also agree about Kennedy. I kept thinking, "Why is she here?" and "How can I stop it?"
plus, it was weird seeing her with Willow....

Just stopping by real quick cuz I read something yesterday: Remember I said I didn't care much for comic books in general and thus wasn't enthusiastic about the season 8. Well yesterday I did go to the darkhorse website and looked at all the previews and actually thought they looked ok. I had seen some extracts from Buffy comics years ago (like 2001 or something) where I thought the drawings were awful and the story lame. But the season 8 series is really different - it's actually supervised and partly written by Joss (who I worship btw, he is such a genius :rockstar: ) so that kinda makes it more real to me. Like, if some random dude wrote a season 8 I could care less. But Joss writing it, that makes it more official somehow. And I didn't know about the other two Buffys so when I read that in the previews I was freaking out because it finally explains why Buffy would run off with some Immortal vampire dude which seemed so stupid back then because why would she fall for yet another vampire who doesn't even have a soul, that really didn't make sense. Andrew thought it would be funny for some reason, haha.
And the thing about Warren and Amy? OMG  ! So yeah, I have decided to go along with the comics, it's better than nothing. Of course it would be a million times better to see it acted out on screen, I would love to see the Buffy cast united again. But since the odds of that ever happening are practically zero, I guess I'll have to stick with the comics. Oh well.
Favorite ep. The Gift? Hm. It's a pretty good episode I guess. Not such a tearjerker for me though, I mean yeah it's dramatic and sad when Buffy jumps, but the thing was: you know she will be back. Even when I watched it the first time all those years ago, everyone knew she'd be back on screen a few months later. So that kinda took some of the drama out for me unfortunately. Just like Spike's death didn't make me cry as much as I think it would've if I hadn't known he would show up on Angel. Also the thing about The Gift: like I said, I would have preferred to see Dawn jump. Haha that sounds so mean :P . But you know, I watched the ep. the other day with my roommate and I just got angry and started yelling at the screen: Jump, stupid Dawnie, jump! so yeah the ep. makes me more agitated than teary-eyed, just like the Grey's season 3 finale... . You might ask yourself: Is Jasmin a nutcase who constantly talks to her television  ? The answer is: yes. I do talk to my tv which is slightly annoying for the other people in the room  .
I only have eyes for you, yeah you're right that was a great episode. It was actually the first one I ever saw. I was flipping through the channels and Buffy was on, it was right when she enters the school. I had no idea what was going on with her and Angel but somehow I thought it was pretty cool so the week after that I turned in for the Go Fish episode (looking back: one of the worst IMO :hammer: but I still liked it) and then it was the season finale. I still had no clue what was going on, I knew almost nothing about the characters and yet when I watched that Angel-getting-his-soul-back scene and Buffy stabbing him and then when Full of grace started playing... I cried. And cried. And cried some more. I had recorded it and watched it over and over and I was crying like a baby every time I watched it. So that kinda made me realize that this show was really special and I watched season 1 over the summer and season 2 in the fall when season 3 had started and then I was all up to date B) .
Buffy used to be my favorite character as well, I still  her, her and Andrew would came in third and fourth place on my list I think. Andrew just cuz he is cracking me up basically every time he is on screen. Tom Lenk is a comic genius IMO. And Buffy - well she's Buffy. Nuff said.
Off to study some more now, one exam down (3 hours of marketing this morning :o) three more to go (tuesday and wed.) :? ...
McBored - August 13, 2007 03:39 PM (GMT)
I think everyone would've liked to see Dawn jump!! And yeah, I guess what you said is true, at the time I didn't know it was coming back. I was a bit younger at the time, after all it was...damn....2001? I think? I just think they're something noble about buffy's death, and if the series ended right there, I would have wanted more, but at least the series finale would've been good. {Maybe I cry because Dawn didn't jump, I don't know  } But its probably because I am so invested in the Buffy character, ya know??
Oh yeah, Andrew is awesome. I remember that they always made a joke about him, the one where no one know who he is?? They'd be like "Warren, Jonathan, and Andrew? " "Who? " "Tuckers brother?" Well he made the series alot more comedic during the last season.
The artwork is pretty good in the comics for season eight. You can tell its not just a fan comic, I haven't got te chance to read te new one yet, but I probably will soon.
Season 2 finale? That pretty much is pure classic Buffy right there. Even my Dad cries still, he tries to hide it....It is so sad to see him die...Then when Buffy leaves its pretty much the perfect song, it has a depressing mood to it but I still like it.
I once read a Buffy side book, you know, the made up ones? which is weird cause I usually don't touch them, but this one was larger and had a pretty cool summary. And in the book, there was a very sad Angel death, Buffy basically did it, only because he was trapped on a stake and she had to let him off but if she did it would mean he would die....I cried then too, and it may seem that I cry alot but if you knew me I really don't cry too often!! Good tv makes you cry...
Well then, I'm off to pretend I was never on the computer in the first place. :ninja: Good luck with your exams! :claps: :claps: :claps:

The Andrew joke - yeah that's a classic. And the funny thing is they had initially planned to bring Tucker back but apparently the actor was unavailable so they "invented" his brother Andrew. And then the who-the-hell-are-you joke turned out to be one of the most hilarious recurring lines ever  . How old were you when you started watching Buffy? I was 13 (I'm 22 now) when I started and the show ended a few months before my 18th birthday. So it really kinda accompanied me during my teenage years haha.

I know exactly what you're talking about. In "real life" I've never been much of a crying person. Like when I was little and I fell I never really cried much or when I'm upset about something I don't cry. I tend to yell and curse more hehe  . But show me the final Ally mcBeal or Buffy scene or The Body or even a movie like City of angels or Moulin Rouge - I turn into a water fountain :sob: . Even books make me cry sometimes. Like Nicholas Sparks novels, they're so friggin cheesy but they're also such tearjerkers. Or HP 7 when poor Dobby dies... :?
My exams are all done now. One went really well, one went good and two went... not too great. But I won't know my results for two weeks unfortunately.
I've been watching some Joss Whedon interviews and I found this old one which I thought was kinda funny just in case you're bored again ;) .

yeah, I was browsing through Buffy avatars when I saw it and I was like that is a coincidence and I dcided to put it on there.
Id like to say I was six or seven, can't remember the exact age, so I guess you can say I grew up with it... :)
I friggin bawled when dobby died, it was such a great..(NOT MEANING "GREAT B/C I WISH HE HADN"T)... death, it was kind of like Dobby cared alot for Harry and in his death he helped and protected him and I think the way she wrote it was great... And I jut bought the Moulin Rouge on VHS the other day, I love that movie.
And as for the whole Bangel or Spuffy....mostly I go either way, I know thats kinda weird but it was like Spike was better when he got a soul, but he connected with Buffy in a weird, but truthful way. And Angel was...well, Angel. Hes always gonna have that thing with Buffy but honestly I'm uncertain who I'd rather see her with, considering Angel had his own story mapped out in a different way than Buffy, and then Spike had his own destny too...I know thats indesicive.
What do you think about it?

Well I used to be a total Buffy/Angel shipper all through seasons 1 to 4. I hated Riley with a passion back then :hammer: . When I rewatched all the episodes now I didn't feel so strongly about him anymore though. The way he was written he was a really nice guy and he didn't even know about Angel, etc. and he was pretty good to Buffy. I actually started to feel bad for him because he is trying so hard and yet Buffy doesn't love him as much as he loves her. You know that scene with him and Xander where Xander says how he envies Riley and Buffy and Riley tells him that she doesn't love him - that is such a sad scene. Anyway, back on topic: I loved the whole epic Bangel love story. They were cute together and the Angel-losing-his-soul storyarc was just amazing. Two of my favorite Buffy fights were Buffy vs. Angelus. One of course the sword fight in Becoming part 2; the other one is in Innocence when Buffy kicks Angel in his balls :claps: . In season 3 I thought it got a little ridiculous sometimes. Nothing happens for a few episodes, then they kiss, then they decide they can only be friends, then Buffy decides they can't even be that, then they kinda get back together, then they really get back together, then Angel decides they shouldn't be together after all,... That scene where he breaks up with her in The Prom is so emotional and well acted. And then when he shows up at the Prom after all and they dance... yup, here I go again with the crying :sob: . And then I will remember you - after that episode aired I was so upset I couldn't sleep for hours and I cried so hard that my mom was really worried about my sanity... :hyper: So yeah, I was a fanatic Bangel shipper ;) .
But I had always loved Spike so when he had that dream about Buffy I was immediately like: Forget about Angel, go Spuffy :rockstar: ! The scene from Fool for love where he shows up in Buffy's back yard to kill her and then ends up sitting beside her, patting her on the back is just one of the sweetest scenes ever  . Their relationship in season 6 wasn't that great. When I watched it for the first time I really wanted to believe Buffy loved him but didn't want to admit it to herself but after rewatching it all a few years later, I changed my mind. Just like she said, she didn't love him, she used him because she wanted to feel something and he was up for it because he actually did love her. When she tells him "I'm sorry, William." - :sob: as always haha. I have always hated the AR scene, I think it was completely unnecessary. Oh well. In season 7 I liked how they were bonding and how Buffy always took care of Spike. The cuddling scenes were just so sweet  . When Angel shows up and they kiss I still yell at my tv. I know they were trying to give something to the Bangel fans but I just find it kinda inappropriate. They hadn't seen each other in a long time, Buffy was developing serious feelings for Spike and Angel had been oh-so-in-love with Cordelia (I hated that storyline btw :bleah:) and yet they can't help but make out right away? When Buffy tells Spike she loves him I like to believe she really does mean it. And Joss said Sarah was supposed to say it like she really means it. Also, Buffy's last word on the show was "Spike" :D . So yeah that was the long version of saying: when i rewatch seasons 1 to 4 I am all for Buffy and Angel but overall I'm a Spuffy shipper :) .
And I think Spike is by far the better guy. If you compare it: William was a sweet, shy, naive young man who took care of his sick mother and had a crush on a girl who didn't reciprocate his feelings. Liam on the other hand was always just drinking and sleeping around. When William became a vampire he turned his mother so that she wouldn't be in pain anymore and could come with him. When Liam became a vampire he killed his entire family. Spike loved Drusilla although he didn't have a soul. Angel didn't love anyone, he just slept with Drusilla to annoy Spike. Angel got his soul back by a curse and when he lost it turned right back into the evil monster he was, torturing, killing,... Spike fell in love with Buffy, helped the Scoobies, took care of Dawn - all without a soul! And then he went through a lot of trouble, trying to get his soul back. And actually he turned out not to be that different when he got it.

I just thought I'd share this. Im thinking about putting it in my sig, but my sis said she wanted it for her forum, although she hasn't seen it at all.
I found a pic of mutant enemy and I couldn't help making a banner out of it.

hehe. my dad got the buffy font i forget where, and now when I look up, it says" the new greys forum" in buffy letters.
I don't know if you watch it, but seth green has a show called robot chicken, and at the end of one episode there was a "mutant enemy" spoof.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpjt1KoYHsg&NR=1Thats actually joss's voice, which i find very cool. They have another buffy one with SMG, i cant remember what it was...
