Title: Job Seeking Anxiety
anna - March 28, 2007 08:52 AM (GMT)
Hi All! So naturally..not working at the moment = lots of time to sit and think.. which leads me to write this in hopes of getting some perspective
I recently quit my boring (low paying) office monkey job in hopes of finding something..more! I took some "cushion time" so I could relax and spend more time with my dog Lola and got the recycled office air out of my system.
Now I'm jumping back into the market in hopes of finding employment again. Then I realize, I'm 18, have sparse experience, and unimpressive grades to boot. What is on my side is that the job market is booming.. and worker shortages are everywhere. In my head I feel I can go on interviews and talk my way into a company, but in reality I'm the biggest introvert!! I've never been great at "selling myself" to the perspective employer. I tense up in those situations and laugh nervously like o'malley when he sees breasts. It probably doesn't help that my references arent great either. Do you think I should suck it up and get out there, or maybe even go to a staffing company and get their help? Or if you have alternative ideas please feel free to let me know! I'll be sitting here watching season 3 of Greys!

I don't have much experience with this... but I just got a job myself! Sunday is my first day. I think you just have to try to get one, get some experience with interviews! there's always somewhere a job for you...

well the worst they can do is say no. I'd start going for interviews and if they all decline you then I would get help from a staffing company or something.

If someone declines you, I would also ask why... you can learn a lot from it!

Yeah I would do that as well...you can ask your friends who maybe went for job interviews how theirs was...then you can apply, wait for the job interview, don't get nervous and just think you're like talking to your best friend, and if they don't take you, you can ask why. They'll definately give you a reason and then you can see what you can do better the next time!
