Title: Day of Silence - PLEASE READ!
Caddie_Is_Love - March 29, 2008 01:30 AM (GMT)
Guys, this is important.
On Friday, April 25th, students all over the country are taking a vow of silence for the day to bring to light how LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) students are kept silent for fear of harassment, discrimination, and the like. This year, it is being held in the memory of Lawrence King, a California 15-year-old who was shot and killed by a classmate on February 12th because of the fact he was gay.
If this means
anything to you,
please sign up to participate. It's something that needs to be put out there. Even if it's just you doing it, it (hopefully) will make some sort of statement.
Day of SilenceRegister HerePLEASE take a look!
McEline - March 29, 2008 09:24 PM (GMT)
that's such a great idea! They should do it world wide! (or at least also here...)
Caddie_Is_Love - March 29, 2008 09:50 PM (GMT)
DO IT! It will still raise awareness :)
Cait - March 29, 2008 10:56 PM (GMT)
I'm a gonna do it! And I'll tell other people about it, too. Thanks Mags!!
McBored - March 29, 2008 11:26 PM (GMT)
I just registered!! waiting for a reply. :D :D
Caddie_Is_Love - March 30, 2008 03:47 AM (GMT)
THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!
*hugs for all*
How much does THIS suck: The 25th is during our April break! So I'm doing it (most likely) the Monday after :) Kinda weird, but it won't DO anything if I'm not at school.
Cait - March 31, 2008 12:24 AM (GMT)
Kind of related, but not really, sort of:
Today me, my sister, and my mom marched in Topeka with the KEC of Topeka to protest Fred Phelps, the most evil man in the world, and his church. He anti-gays to the max, and he pickets soldiers' funerals. He is a blight on this earth and I can't believe no one has killed him yet. There were TONS of people out, it was really great to see so many awesome people in one place.
About the event
http://www.freshare.net/freshare/article/m...of_gay_service/About Phelps (yeah check out the WEB address alone. OMFG) This is his church's home page. He's pretty notorious in KS.
http://www.godhatesfags.com/Day of silence info for KS. :D Look at all the schools signed up. Bad thing is the asses who don't think we should be doing it, but FUCK THEM, right?! They can't tell anybody not to speak if they don't want to.

Caddie_Is_Love - March 31, 2008 12:53 AM (GMT)
THAT HOMOPHOBIC BASTARD CAN JUST GO BURN IN HELL.
GOOD GIRL for marching against him! :D I'm clicking through that site to see just HOW homophobic he is
NOBODY in ME is doing it!!!!!!!! At least, nobody's registered.
Cait - March 31, 2008 04:24 AM (GMT)
We're so cool!
My mom is doing it at her work place. :D My dad can't cuz he's in the Army, but yeah.
Mactilda - March 31, 2008 08:05 AM (GMT)
What an ass.......
(the Phelps-guy)
What bad has happened to Sweden??? I think that homosexuality is more accepted there than in the US and we haven't had any terroristattacs (knock on wood). Jesus is love... " If you fight love you are always a looser".
Grrrrrrrrrrr
I'm sorry but I can't commit to a day of silence trying to rase two children.... and it wouldn't do much good since they and my husband would be the only ones to notice :)
Cait - March 31, 2008 09:05 AM (GMT)
You're down with the cause, that's what matters! :D
Yeah... Apparently that's the reason he hates Swedes. ( I read that and was like "O really? WTF...") All us "gay enablers" are going to burn in hell, you know, like Coretta Scott King, Ronald Regan, and Princess Di... Duh. *rolls eyes* Because that makes sense. *more eye rolling*
Caddie_Is_Love - March 31, 2008 11:21 AM (GMT)
And if people who SUPPORT gay people are burning in hell, then us gay FOLK are DOUBLY burning, or so HE says. *icky face*
Mactilda - April 1, 2008 08:11 AM (GMT)
Yeah I'm down with the cause....
One thing that I don't like about Switzerland is their narrrow minds....
It's going to be sooooooooo nice to be back in Sweden again this summer. we will stay in Swe for at least three years *yeay*.
Have I told you when my 7 year old son got in a fight for defending gay marriages? (if I have ignore the rest)
At school someone said that two of the girls in his class where so close that they would marry if two girls could get married. This is what follows (loosely translated B - boy, W - my son )
W - They can get married.
B- Nooo two girls can't get married it has to be a man and a woman.
W - No, you can marry anyone you want as long as it's not someone in your family.
B- No that is not right it is just wrong. (starting to push my son)
W- No it isn't. (starts walking away)
B pulls W's backpack and stops him from going away, the teatcher that told me about this stops them both and (even though she heard the conversation) asks what's the matter.
B - he told everyone that two girls or boys can get married.
W - THEY CAN!
Teacher - They can in Sweden.
(I'm abit angry with that answer cause that's just wrong to tell it like that cause there is a "partnership"-thingy in Switzerland aswell, and we haven't come further in Sweden when it comes to the law but the ACCEPTANCE and RESPECT is much wider/larger)
Well I am proud over my son. It is totaly normal for him with since we have gay-friends both male and female and his favourit artists for a few years was "After dark" which is a duo of drag queens........

Caddie_Is_Love - April 1, 2008 11:14 AM (GMT)
YAY FOR DEFENDING GAY MARRIAGES!!!!!
I honestly HATE the whole "domestic partnership/civil union" thing. Just call it marriage, for God's sake!
Cait - April 1, 2008 08:25 PM (GMT)
How cool can your son be? And then walking away like a true little gentleman. Kudos to him! You've trained him well. ;) Hehehee.
I thought Switzerland was all La Dee Da and neautral about most things. Hmm! It's nice to hear how tolerant Sweden is. I can tell you are excited about going back!
Caddie_Is_Love - April 1, 2008 08:52 PM (GMT)
I wish everyone was tolerant of everyone.
McBored - April 1, 2008 10:08 PM (GMT)
Me too. I guess I AM burning in hell. I happen to think being homophobic or antigay is "unfair treatment of a person or group on the basis of prejudice " AKA discrimination. (Definition according to Wordnet) People automatically think of just race when talking about discrimination. It exists, yes, but being anti-gay is discriminating too. people who are anti gay are hipocrites, I think, because who honestly wants to be discriminated against?? :?
Mactilda, your son is a rockstar for that. :rockstar:
Caddie_Is_Love - April 2, 2008 12:28 AM (GMT)
They really do, which is sad.
There are laws against discrimination based on RACE, but why not sexual orientation?
Mactilda - April 2, 2008 07:14 AM (GMT)
At least we have THAT in sweden. The discrimination law includes racism (we do not talk about races in sweden, we talk more of ethnicity) gender, suexual orientation, religous views, etc, etc,
Cait - April 2, 2008 07:22 AM (GMT)
Here, we always confuse race with ethnicity. All the time. Ethnicity consists of your cultural traits, and race with your physical traits. I believe technically there are only 3 races... White, black, and "mongoloid" (Asian). Which is also why race is a completely null and void way to categorize a person. Where do Hispanics fit in? Indians? Hello, we call blacks African Americans. That alone is not correct from a sociological point of view. Are they from Africa? No. They're American. Just like I'm white and American, they are black and American. My ancesters got all in the mix about the same time theirs did. We're all Americans. The end. If someone is from Nigeria and they come here and live, THEN that is an African American. Or an Italian comes and lives here, Italian American. La la la!
Caddie_Is_Love - April 2, 2008 07:05 PM (GMT)
It's stupid. Are we or are we not all PEOPLE?
Okay. I decided to go to our school's Student "Leader" Group to see if I could round up a few more supporters. So I go to the guidance councelor, and she told me to go to our principal. My mother (Good LORD, why did I have to tell HER?!) told me that he was most likely going to nix it because middle schoolers aren't mature enough to handle it. Well, if he nixes my idea to get some of the Student "Leaders" behind me, I'm still doing it alone. I don't give a crap if I get in trouble or not; it NEEDS to be done!
Cait - April 2, 2008 07:11 PM (GMT)
They can't fault you for not saying anything. Just do it, carry a piece of paper with the info on the Day of Silence and show it to anyone who speaks with you. (Teachers, too)
Caddie_Is_Love - April 2, 2008 07:21 PM (GMT)
I think I shall, even if he says I can't present it to the group :)
Caddie_Is_Love - April 24, 2008 10:20 PM (GMT)
It's tomorrow, everyone! If you're still going through with it, it'd be AWESOME if you could post here about it later tomorrow :)
Cait - April 24, 2008 10:21 PM (GMT)
Will do! I AM SO EXCITED.
I need a piece of paper to show people. :) MWAHAHA
Caddie_Is_Love - April 24, 2008 10:35 PM (GMT)
I'm SO sorry I didn't put this up earlier! The "Speaking Cards" on here are what you can print off and hand out throughout the day :) This weekend, I'm plannign on printing off quite a few of 'em :P

Caddie_Is_Love - April 24, 2008 11:01 PM (GMT)
You don't have to do it from dawn till dusk, but just the school day is probably good :) But then again, I don't know what you're planning to do, so you don't need to listen to me :P
McBored - April 24, 2008 11:03 PM (GMT)
Well, I'll probably just sow my tachers before the bell rings the flyer. My friends are all pretty much doing it anyways... :P I'll only talk if I need to.
Caddie_Is_Love - April 24, 2008 11:06 PM (GMT)

I'm doing it Monday, since we're on BREAK. I'm only going to talk if I need to. I don't think any of my friends are doing it though :(
McBored - April 24, 2008 11:09 PM (GMT)

I noticed that… it looked a little odd :P
McBored - April 25, 2008 07:32 PM (GMT)
Ok-- here's my Day of Silence report!!! :D
I was pretty much silent for the whole school day, I only spoke if I ABSOLUTELY needed to- I mean i read on one of the pages that I could. I mean this is a choice anyway, so I'm happy with what I chose.
when other people saw what I was doing, some of them did it too!! I had printed out some of the card, and by the end of the day I only had a crumpled up square off of it, because other people had ripped out squares for themselves!!
although my determination waned during ROTC...I saw the new chain of command, and I. Flipped. Out. Because of all the new things happening next year. And the fact that we were playing kickball. The urge to swear at the opposing team was too daunting. :)
Overall, the day was a success. It made me happy when people asked why I wasn't talking, and I showed them my card :D .
i had to tell my teacher something in science, like HAD to, and I spoke, and when I walked by one of my friends desks he (jackass) was like "ooh, you spoke!" saying obnoxious things. So I wrote him a note. It read:
I can speak when I really NEED TO. Nimrod.
Cait - April 25, 2008 07:35 PM (GMT)
LMFAO @ Nimrod!!! Good going!!! :D
It's going pretty good for me, too, esp. since I just woke up. :P mwahhaaa!
Caddie_Is_Love - April 25, 2008 07:38 PM (GMT)
LOL :D
Jen, THAT IS GREAT!
Cait - April 25, 2008 07:44 PM (GMT)
Well I just almost ran into someone at the bathroom and didn't say excuse me. :P But it was her fault and she was apologizing. I just nodded and smiled. :P
