Title: What's in a Name?
Cait - March 31, 2008 04:02 AM (GMT)
Hey all!
I was looking into this earlier, and I thought it was cool. I've always been into the whole "meanings behind the name" thing. So, tell me what your name means! There's lots of sites you can use to find out, such as www.behindthename.com .
You can do your name our people in your family, or your pets or friends. Whoever!
Also, I think it's funny if you give your own definition... Just describing you a bit! :)

I'll start. My given name is Caitlyn which is derived from Katherine (!) meaning "Pure". It's Greek, I believe. Which is SO off. My middle name is Adriana which means "Dark one" and is Spanish. My names totally contradict each other. :P Hehheee.
MY definition:
Caitlyn: One who is bossy, opinionated, caring, frivilous, and bold. Likes caramel machiattos and rats almost equally. Has a habit of being the "motherer" of any group. Cries easily.
:P Hehheee.

NICE! :P
My real name is Margaret, which is derived from Margarita (OOOOOO!) in Latin and means "pearl." My middle name, Jacqueline, is the feminine form of Jacques :P
inmymcdreams - March 31, 2008 08:29 PM (GMT)
:P
So my real name is Cynthia, which was Latinized form of Greek Κυνθια (Kynthia) which means "woman from Kynthos". This was an epithet of the Greek moon goddess Artemis, given because Kynthos was the mountain on Delos on which she and her twin brother Apollo were born. Middle name Elyse: Pet form of ELIZABETH.

McBored - March 31, 2008 08:57 PM (GMT)
Jennifer it says comes from GUINEVERE an Old French form of the Welsh name Gwenhwyfar, which is composed from "gwen" meaning "fair, white" and "hwyfar" meaning "smooth". In Arthurian legend shes the wife of King Arthur. Who cheated with that lancelot guy.

McBored - March 31, 2008 09:01 PM (GMT)

Karolina , kar(o)-lina\ is of Slavic origin. Variant of Caroline, from Charles (Old German) "free man".
Greta \g-re-ta\ is pronounced GREH-tah. It is of German origin. Short form of Margaret (Greek) "pearl". Like the famous Swedish actress Greta Garbo.
Matilda is of Teutonic derivation, derived from words meaning "might, strength" and "battle." Pronounced (in Swedish) with Ma like in Malik not like English Muh-tilda
Matilda is the name I go by :)

Caddie_Is_Love - April 3, 2008 07:10 PM (GMT)
Me little brother:
Anthony- From the Roman family name Antonius, which is of unknown Etruscan origin. It has been commonly (but incorrectly) associated with Greek ανθος (anthos) "flower", which resulted in the addition of the h in the 17th century.
Yeah. So his name means "flower," but NOT REALLY :P
And just for the heck of it, my fic characters (who are mine :P):
Sarah- It means "lady" or "princess" in Hebrew. Has some Bible connection, but I don't care about that :)
Felicia- Feminine form of Felix, meaning "lucky, successful" in Latin.
Kara- Variant of Cara, which means either "beloved" in Italian or "friend" in Irish.
So, along with our Calliope (beautiful voice- SQUEE!), I've got a pretty nice family going here! :P
