Title: Prequel To "We Kiss In The Shadows!"
Description: What happened the FIRST time…

Caddie_Is_Love - April 30, 2008 12:14 AM (GMT)
Sooo, this is how Callie and Sarah met the FIRST time :) I'm starting with Sarah, but Callie will come in soon.

Sarah hadn’t wanted to go to the party. She hadn’t wanted to go, but she had gone anyway. But once she loosened up, she was fine. Sure, none of her friends were there, but whatever. Her sister Katherine, who was a year younger than her, had said she’d be stopping by later. She still hadn’t showed.

Sarah was just hanging out against a wall when a classmate of hers sidled up to her. He was clearly drunk, she could smell it on his breath.

“Hey babe, how about you and me… go get some fresh air?”

Sarah backed away as best she could, trying to get away from him.

“No.”

He wouldn’t take no for an answer.

“It’ll be fun, trust me.” He took her arm and led her outside, to a secluded corner in the backyard of the fraternity house. He pushed her against the wall and tried kissing her. She smacked him, and he smacked her right back.

“I don’t think so, sweetie. You’re not going anywhere.” He pushed her down on the ground and climbed on top of her.

“Get off of me! Get off!” That was all Sarah got out before she felt a large hand press down on her mouth, silencing her.

“I don’t think so.” The next thing she knew, Sarah could feel him pushing into her. She bit his hand, he let go, and she screamed in pain. He got up, clapped his hands together as if he had just finished a project, and walked away, leaving Sarah cold, exposed, and feeling violated.

She did the only thing she could: she pulled out her cell phone and called for help.

Katherine had just gotten there when she got the phone call. She ran outside and found her older sister leaning up against the wall of the house, shivering, with a hollow look to her face.

“I’m not going to the hospital,” was all she said.

“Oh yes you are.”

“No. I’m over 18; I can refuse. I’m not going. I’m not going. If I do…” Her voice trailed off as she burst into tears. She knew what would happen. Nobody would believe her; most of her classmates thought she was a liar anyway. Nothing would be done, so Sarah would keep quiet. It wasn’t long until graduation anyway. She just had to keep telling herself that.

It was an OMG!!!!

Very good job on that. I admit I was slightly worried, but you pulled it off with tact. :) Good job!

“Pregnant.” Sarah stared at the positive test in her hand. “Fuck.”

“Oh GOD,” Katherine said. “What’re you going to do?”

“I don’t know. I honestly don’t know. Don’t ask me that yet.”

Sarah was only sure she didn’t want to abort. She wasn’t sure of anything else. She figured, with what she wanted to do with her life, she couldn’t raise the baby.

So adoption was all she could think about. It was the option she saw as the only way for her child to have a good life. She didn’t tell Katherine right off though because she wanted to look into it further.

******************************************************************************
The only thing that seemed to make sense to Sarah was music. She, in high school, had stayed after almost every day with her music teacher because she didn’t want to go home. There was nothing for her there. She’d learned to play the piano in those days after school, and even when she was having a particularly crappy day, the music would make it better, even if it was only for a while.

So that’s why, at the first opportunity, Sarah found someplace she could play. She knew that music would serve her baby well, and she wanted to do the best she could for it until it was born. She had found adoptive parents and was all set, due in March.

Med school was better than she thought. Sure, her roommate was a bitch, but she didn’t care. The classes were difficult and challenging and she LOVED it. People, for once, weren’t being stupid, and Sarah had friends, something that had been very rare in the past.

******************************************************************************
Callie was a loner by nature, but she didn’t mind it. She had her few people she hung around with, and that was good for her. She tried her hardest to not let the secret of her parents’ money out, worrying that it would ruin her few friendships.

She was a singer. She didn’t play any instruments, but damn,Callie could sing. Everyone back at her old high school couldn’t believe her when she said in the yearbook that she was going to be a surgeon. They all thought she was wasting her talent on something boring. But Callie didn’t find it boring at all. She thought being able to save lives was an amazing thing.

******************************************************************************
Callie decided, as a spur-of-the-moment thing, to go to this little “Broadway Bar” (as it was referred to by students) where people would perform, mainly numbers from Broadway musicals. You had to audition, and if you got in, you stayed for as long as you wanted. It was HARD to get into, but the talent was GOOD.

She didn’t know that the featured person that particular Friday night was a classmate of hers.

Callie walked in as Sarah was in the middle of something she had never heard before, but loved from that moment on. She wasn’t usually a theater person, but hearing Sarah sing both old and new made her feel happier than her usual music could. Wow, she thought. She’s amazing.

Callie stayed until Sarah was done to compliment her on her performance.

“That was… amazing.” She said to her with a big smile on her face.

Sarah was glad someone liked it. “Thanks! This was my first time doing this, so I was pretty nervous. I’ve never really gotten the chance, you know?”

“Yeah,” Callie had never showed off her talent much either, but that was a choice she made. “Hey, what was that song you did earlier? The one that was like…” She hummed a few bars.

“Oh, that one! That’s ‘On My Own’ from the musical Les Miserables. It’s one of my favorite songs of all time.”

“I like it. And I’m not usually a theater person either!”

Sarah laughed. “Theater has always been my thing. It helped me forget everything.”

She smiled and Callie noticed sadness in her smile.

“So, you live around here?”

“Yeah, well sort of. I’m a med student at Columbia.”

“Me too!”

“No way! Tough, isn’t it?”

“Yeah, but I like it. Speaking of school…” Callie looked at her watch. “12:30 in the morning. I should probably be going.”

“Me too. See you around.” Callie turned around and left. She certainly hoped she would see her around.

Cait - June 4, 2008 07:39 PM (GMT)
OH! Ok. Whew. LMAO

Caddie_Is_Love - June 4, 2008 07:46 PM (GMT)
LOL :) Here comes more!

After their first meeting, Callie and Sarah didn’t see each other again for nearly a year. Sarah had her baby and gave it up, which was one of the most difficult decisions she had ever made. Having Katherine there made it a little easier. She was like her best friend.

All went well their freshman year.

Sophomore year came. Sarah’s roommate had taken one look at Sarah’s growing stomach and headed for the hills, leaving her without a roommate. Callie, on the other hand, wanted a roommate this year. She had been a little lonely last year.

Sarah heard a knock on her door and someone walked in. She had been informed that she was getting a new roommate, she just didn’t know who. She turned around…

And saw Callie standing there. She thought she recognized her from somewhere, she just couldn’t tell where.

Callie was thinking the same thing. She thought she had seen Sarah somewhere, she just didn’t know where.

And then it clicked for both of them.

“I know you!” They both said at the exact same time.

******************************************************************************
That simple phrase was all it took. There was no awkwardness between them, but it was like they had been friends for years. As they got to know each other, they discovered things they had in common (the only musical Callie knew, RENT, a love for food, movies), and their bond grew stronger. They were best friends by the time midterms rolled around.

Or so they thought.

To celebrate the end of midterms, Callie and Sarah decided to go to a party off-campus. It was small, but when they got there, there was already a rousing game of “Truth or Dare” going on. Only, this was no little kids Truth or Dare, this was big kids Truth or Dare.

After they each had enough alcohol in their systems to give them a damn good-sized buzz, the game was still on.

“I sayyyy… Callie!” Their classmate Melissa said drunkenly, pointing at her. “Truth or Dare?”

Callie was never one to give up a challenge. “Dare.”

“Oh! I got one!” That was the guy everyone had already labeled “Most Likely To Be A Whore Instead Of A Doctor,” Greg. “You,” he pointed to Callie, “Make out with…her!” He pointed to Sarah.

Everyone stopped, then the cheers started. Callie looked at Sarah, and since they were both too drunk to protest, Callie shrugged and went for it.

Their lips touched, and nothing was ever the same.

Cait - June 4, 2008 09:35 PM (GMT)
Maggie, that was great!!! I love it. :) So sweet!

Haha, drunken Truth or Dare... Nice!!!

Caddie_Is_Love - June 5, 2008 12:01 PM (GMT)
Thanks! That game was my plan from the start :D Got it from Anthony Rapp's book :P

And heeeeere's a little more!

The kissing that had happened the night before was the only thing they could remember when they woke up with hangovers the next morning.

“Damn, did that really happen?” Sarah asked, coming out of the bathroom rubbing her aching head. “I mean, did it REALLY happen?”

“I think so.” Callie was laying on her bed, a pillow over her face. By no means had they stopped drinking after that dare, so these were MAJOR hangovers. “I mean, sure, the many shots I tossed back afterward may have clouded my mind a bit, but I think I remember it.” Of course, she didn’t add that the feeling of Sarah’s lips on hers was something she knew she wouldn’t forget, no matter how much alcohol was in her bloodstream. It was freaking her out. She had never felt this way before. Even though they had been drunk at the time, Callie remembered it like they had been perfectly sober. That’s got to mean something, she thought. I never would have remembered it otherwise.

“What was that?”

Callie didn’t realize that that last sentence had actually come out of her mouth.

“Nothing… OWWWWWWWWWW!” She had sat up straight too fast and her head started pounding like someone had taken a hammer to it. She put the pillow back over her head and laid down.

Sarah, on the other hand, was standing in their little bathroom thinking about the night before. She wasn’t panicking yet. She wouldn’t panic until there was a reason to panic.

“Callie, can I ask you something?”

“Sure,” Callie’s muffled voice answered her. “What’s up?”

“Did that… Did you…” Sarah stopped, not sure this was a good idea.

“What?”

“Never mind.”

“Okay.” Callie usually would have pressed her for information, but her head hurt too much to do that.

Some of it IS a little lame, I know, but it's the best I can do!
