Katherine Heigl Slaps ‘Greys’ Writers in Face
Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl said on Wednesday that she did not put her name in for Emmy consideration this year because she did not feel she was given material to justify it.
Now, a Grey’s Anatomy insider fights back and says, “The show bent over backwards to accommodate her film schedule, and then she criticizes the show for lack of material?” the insider told EW. “It’s an ungrateful slap in the face to the very writers responsible for her Emmy win in the first place.”
Last year Katherine was advised by her own manager/mother that she “didn’t have a shot in hell of winning,” and made a point of telling the Primetime Emmy Awards audience in her speech.
Grey’s Anatomy has slipped in the ratings this past season but is still a top 10 show.

While I'm all about being honest and speaking your mind, I think Katie could have said what she did differently. I mean, c'mon...she KNOWS what she says is gonna make some sparks fly. Plus her whole spill about not being "given material to justify a nomination"...the Emmy's are about people's ACTING ability, not MATERIAL/WRITING. IDK. I don't hate her or anything lol, I just think she could have used better wording.

Wording could have been changed, but I can't say she's wrong in saying what she did... Her material wasn't anything that called for great acting; anyone could have done what she had done this season. Which is where the material fits into the equation, I think, anyway. Whether that's from the writers trying to fit in everyone since the cast has grown, or like they said, accomodating her filming schedule, point is it wasn't anything special, and it doesn't deserve an Emmy. A lot of the other actors on the show could say the same thing she did, and maybe should, too. We all know the show slipped since Shonda took on Private Practice at the same time; I may not have voiced it, but I know it. When PP wasn't taping during the writers' strike and she had all of her energy focused on Grey's, that's when we got our good "second half" of the 4th season.
She's always spoken her mind and she's gotten a lot of flack over it (like with the Isaiah Washington thing...). I admire that, but I think *I* would have held my tongue, took out my name with just a simple "I don't deserve it", and that would have been the nicer, more polite thing to do, but that's not what she does; she speaks her mind and is very open with how she's feeling about whatever. In any case, I think it was a good thing she withdrew her nomination; it was the right thing to do. Blame game was unnecessary, but who knows if that was even her intention? (Like anyone talks the way she did in her statement, LOL!) But I also know she's voiced concerns about the show and where the writers were taking Izzie, even claiming she didn't recognize her and wanted to slap her (hey, like us!) so I don't think her intentionally saying what is implied is all too far fetched.
This was odd; both of my parents came to ME with this info instead of the other way around for once. My dad is on my side, while my mom thinks Katie is full of herself and won't ever be nominated again because of this. Is it bad to say we argued over this? LMAO
PS- I should slap a "Katherine Heigl Diplomat" sticker on my shirt somewhere. :P

I just feel like even IF she withdrew for the right reasons it's a little selfish/rude/pointless to blame the material because
a) there was a writers strike and so yeah the writers were sorta preoccupied!
b ) they would have given her more storylines if she wasn't spending loads of time doing films, they accomidated HER schedule
c) to be fair she got some of the best storylines in other season, theres no need to be greedy about it LOL
d) This isn't the first time KH has bitten the hand that feeds her, she called knocked up sexist, and 27dresses formulaic. It's just not very smart to criticise the people who have contributed to your success! Also in doing so are you not also criticising your FANS who supported those projects and LIKED them?!
e) this season she became the other woman, and had some interesting patients, as an actor it IS in her power to explore these sorts if issues and maybe if she'd focused on it she could have pulled an emmy-worthy performance outta the bag! EP has been given some crappy storylines at times but she always puts 110% into her acting and it pays off cause she gives some amazing performances
I honestly am all for freedom of speech and i DO respect people who stand up and speak for what the believe, but i think there is a gracious way to do it, and i think when you do do it it has to take into account the bigger picture, i mean take PD he has voiced his opinion about s4 but he did it differently, he very politely said that he thought maybe the show had gotten a little lost, he didn't blame anyone specific, he didn't release some big contreverisal statement, and he ALWAYS makes it clear just how grateful he is to Shonda and Grey's.
Okay that came out like a rant which i didn't plan on it doing LMAO never mind :D :P

My thing is she doesn't deserve it and her name needs to be out of contention. She should have been a bit more shushed with her opinions but we all know that's not going to happen (Like you said, Dee-Dee, about what she DID say about Knocked Up & 27 Dresses. Why do the movie if you find issue with them? Then I guess she wouldn't be working at all, so I say be quiet about it because if she keeps at it, no ones going to want her because she keeps saying things!)
As long as her name is out of the race, I'm good. I can't believe I'm saying it but I am, LOL.
DeeDee - June 14, 2008 10:23 PM (GMT)
Lol yeah she just needs to learn the value of a little shush! we all have to bite our tongues from time to time :)

*nods head* Tis the truth.
Caddie_Is_Love - June 15, 2008 11:15 PM (GMT)
It is! I definitely think she didn't have to make that comment. It sounds like she's slamming the writers!
Cait - June 27, 2008 07:00 AM (GMT)
OMG this won't diiiiiiieeeee!!!
A few nights ago I hear "little miss whines a lot" being used as a title for her.
And then according to E! News, Lyndsay Lohan "pulled a Heigl" when she withdrew her name too.
Flippin' a, can't someone else go to rehab or get shot nine times and live or get divorced or get pregnant PLEASE so we can move focus onto someone who's actually done something irrehensible? And then everyone is upset because she wouldn't talk about it anymore. Hello, you get pissed at her talking in the first place, and now you want to be even more pissed when she keeps her yap shut? You can't have your cake and eat it, too, ya know! Either you want honesty or stoic silence, you can't have both hos!
Someone's been talking to their publicist, btw. *doo doo doo*

I kind of hate this sort of thing… It bugs me
