Last night was the final performance of the show RENT, which has been playing at the Nederlander Theatre in New York City for twelve years. This is a sad, sad day for the musical theater community, especially the Rentheads, who have grown to love this show so much. I am one of these people. This show has meant so much to me, I can't even BEGIN to describe it. It changed my life. I know it seems like a lot of fuss over nothing, but it really isn't. The show changed the face of Broadway as we know it. Nothing will ever do what RENT did.

THANK YOU, JONATHAN LARSON.

Nobody can ever do what you did.

NO DAY BUT TODAY

I have to admit two things
first: I have never even heard of Rent, should I be ashamed?
second: the Dutch isn't correct... but ok, never mind

Awww... It is a sad day indeed. :( And the end of an era, that's for sure. I can't believe it's over!

Eline, don't feel all that bad. It's a Broadway play that is pretty huge over here (they made a movie of it, as well). I'm not sure how internationally well known it is.

And I giggled about the Dutch part. I always wonder if those things written in other languages are correct.

haha ok I feel a bit better now! I'm not sure about the French and German translations, but at least I know at the Dutch translation they had to translated with are, not with have... but ok whatever...

Yeah, I figured some of them wouldn't be right. I just used a desktop translator :)

To answer your question Eline, it's OK if you've never heard of it :) I'm not sure if it was AS huge anywhere but the US. The show was a phenomenon here when it opened in 1996, and the fact that its creator, Jonathan Larson, died after the first preview show. It has played in many other countries, but I don't think it was as big.

ok :)

Yeah :)

They filmed what I'm assuming to be the last show and guess what? THEY'RE SHOWING IT AT OUR MOVIE THEATER!!!!!!!! Closure!

Me too :( I started the soundtrack at 8 and once I turned out the lights, I was gone. I had the "Bible" open and was following along. I was a wreck once the Finale hit. I didn't want to CLOSE the book. EVER. I've been carrying it around with me all week! I don't think I've ever cried so much over something like that…
